PURPOSE of the COMPLEX

All-weather and round-the-clock (regardless of natural illumination) Earth remote sensing within the centimetric wave band, ensuring accomplishment of the following tasks:

  • in operational hydrometeorology, including monitoring of ice conditions (classification of different types of ice; determination of ice boundaries; detection of icebergs and drifting ice floes)
  • exploration of Earth’s natural resources (detection and exploration of medium- and large-scale geological structures)
  • monitoring of emergency situations (detection of medium- and large-scale areas of environmental pollution, detection of large vessels)
  • monitoring of snow cover (inspection of snow cover boundaries; estimation of water equivalent)
  • monitoring of vegetation cover (detecting areas of forest, affected by diseases or pests; determination of the boundaries of economic activity zones)

COMPLEX STRUCTURE

  • “Severyanin-M” onboard radar complex
  • flat antenna array
